This past month has been extremely hectic, and everyone has been impacted in some manner by the events of Hurricane Sandy, some more than others. Hopefully you were minimally impacted, however if you one of the people who suffered severe or catastrophic losses be sure to reach out to the lodge. DWA Brother Heale has gone to great lengths to reach out to our brethren in the affected communities. If he hasn’t reached you and we can be of help please contact him.
Several members of our lodge stepped up and exemplified the finest principles of Masonry. Notably RW Dieter Hees organized points of distribution throughout not only our district but also the 17th and 23rd districts as well. He along with RW Gertsen, DWA Brothers Heale and Brother Johnson invested many hours in our lodge helping Gloria Chapter of the Eastern Star distributing clothing and copious amounts of food.
I would like to thank the officers and brethren for a successful year. The officers put forth exemplary effort in their degree work. We had several events and fundraisers to include the Mardi Gras Party and several trap shoots. They officers expended a lot of time and effort to see these functions run smoothly and the participating brethren had a great time.
Elections have been moved to December 5, 2012 due the Thanksgiving weekend. If you have an interest in supporting the lodge through dedicated service as a lodge officer, please contact our Senior Warden, Brother Denis Johnson. He is looking for a few good men! We would love to see new talent with fresh ideas to move the lodge forward into the future of Masonry.

Welcome back from summer, I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable time. Now that you need to rest from vacationing, the lodge is an excellent place to relax and share some friendship and brotherly love.
We have a busy schedule planned for the fall. The officers have already begun preparing for chair advancement and are eager to show off their new skills at our September 19th meeting. We will be starting another round of degrees starting with an Entered Apprentice this month.
The Grand Master has called for an emergent communication in early September for the elected line to discuss a possible amnesty for members suspended for non-payment of dues (NPD). We will be discussing this at the first meeting to get the lodge’s pulse on the issue.
The Craftsman’s Club is preparing for a fall raffle, the prize being a snow blower. This winter is rumored to be another harsh and snowy one so be sure to get your tickets early!
Finally, we as a lodge have some serious matters of state that should be addressed by the membership as a whole. The necessity of your attendance cannot be overstated, and your presence is strongly recommended.

Masonry focuses on the individual man, “we take good men and make them better.” All of the references in the lectures, charges and addresses concentrate on the duties you owe to yourself, the brethren and the craft. With no specific direction presented, each member interprets that philosophy in their own way.
In the Entered Apprentice charge you are instructed “… yet it is not meant that Masonry should interfere with your necessary vocations, for these are on no account to be neglected;”
With the approach of Mother’s Day, we are reminded of one of our greatest personal duties, or should I say pleasures. That being family. Frequently we become so engrossed with our careers, our hobbies, the fraternity and our numerous appendant bodies that our families feel neglected, whether actual or perceived.
Be sure to take some quality time with your families this Mother’s Day to solidify your familial and spiritual foundations. A firm base at home affords you better opportunities at success in all aspects of your life.
The Craftsman’s Club has several events planned. They are running a Trap Shoot in May 5, 2012. They are running a 50/50 raffle to be drawn after the summer picnic in July. In September they will be starting a raffle for a snow blower. New members and any assistance are always welcome! The next meeting will be held on May 7, 2012 at 6:30 P.M.

Our first event went off spectacularly and I heartily thank everyone who attended. A great time was had by all who made it to the Mardi Gras Party. Unfortunately, not enough people attended, and it was not the fund-raising opportunity for which we had hoped. We are in a good position for next year’s event to be a profitable one!
We had the New Jersey State Police Blue & Gold team out to confer the Master Mason degree second section and it was another great event. The food was excellent, and the brew masters out did themselves. We had a nice group of side liners; however, we were a little light on lodge members.
Membership, active membership, is the life blood of any organization. In order for this lodge to survive the brethren need to become involved. We can merge with another lodge, but if the membership is not active the results will be the same-the end of masonry. As an organization we have become complacent, relying on the same few to do all of the work and attend all of the functions in an attempt to keep the lodges viable. While I understand that we all have commitments, remember your cable tow and try to support your lodge. Join a committee or the Craftsman’s Club. Attend a practice, an event or a meeting to join in the camaraderie, exchange ideas and/or impart some experience.
On February 7, 2012 I attended Harmony lodge and our letter of proposal for consolidation was read. They appear to be in favor of it and formed their committee of investigation. Our next meeting, we will establish ours. The process is underway and if you have any input or would like to be involved come out to the next meeting. Details will be published as they evolve.
We established the Craftsman’s Club as an active group of Sunrise Lodge. If you like the camaraderie and fellowship without the work of ritual, we are looking to bolster the membership. The CC is an extension of the lodge whose purpose is to relieve some of the work load off of the officers who are already putting forth so much effort. Please give serious consideration to coming out and get involved. The next meeting is on March 5, 2012 at 6:30 P.M.

The first meeting of the year was a lively one. There were many questions about lodge finances which will be addressed in our first February meeting, Feb 4, 2012. R. W. Joseph McCann will be explaining where the accounts stand and discuss the limitations on the how the lodge can invest.
With the requisite number of members present, there was a unanimous vote to initiate the merger procedures with Harmony Lodge #18. The letter of proposal was sent to form the respective committees of investigation. The process is underway and if you have any input or would like to be involved come out to the next meeting. Details will be published as they evolve.
If you like the camaraderie and fellowship without the work of ritual, we are looking to revive the Craftsman’s Club. With the extensive proposed events schedule we will the need assistance of the brethren and the Craftsman’s Club is a good way to get involved. If you are interested we will be having a meeting prior to practice on February 6, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. to vet out the club operations.

I would like to thank the brethren for your confidence in me to allow me to sit in the East once again. It is an honor to serve the lodge and I look forward to a great year. We have a strong line and are planning on a busy year.
Many of you do not know the members of the line since they are young in Masonic years. We will be reinstituting the call list where the wardens and deacons will be reaching out to the brethren prior to each meeting to introduce ourselves. If you’re still in Jersey be sure to let us know if you would like to car pool to the lodge and we will work to get you a ride.
The New Year is a time of new beginnings and renewed commitments. We look forward to seeing brethren missed over the years come out on January 4, 2012 for some camaraderie and fellowship. The stewards have been doing a great job with the meals and your attendance will be appreciated by all.
