Gerald R. Ford, the thirty-eighth President of the United States of America, was initiated into Masonry on September 30, 1949, in Malta Lodge No. 465, Grand Rapids, Michigan, along with his brothers Thomas Gardner Ford 1918-1995, Richard Addison Ford 1924 & James Francis Ford 1927. The Fellowcraft and Master Mason Degrees were conferred by Columbia Lodge No. 3, Washington, D.C., on April 20 and May 18, 1951, as a courtesy to Malta Lodge. Brother Ford was also a Shriner. Brother Ford was the last President who is a Freemason.

To honor our fallen Brother, former President Gerald R Ford, 33rd Degree Master Mason, Brethren from the Washington DC area gathered at Naval Lodge No. 4 at 330 Pennsylvania Ave SE Washington DC Sunday December 31st at 10:30am and walked together to the U.S. Capitol rotunda. The Brothers walled about three blocks from Naval Lodge No. 4 to the U.S. Capitol stopping briefly in front of the Capitol at the statue of former President and Brother James A. Garfield and there gave a short speech. They then made their way through a one hour wait inline passing through security check points then into the rotunda where Brother Ford was ling in state. One by one the Brethran gave their respect and honors to our fallen Brother.

Brethren:

I received sad news from our Junior Deacon, Brother Jon Day. Brother Jon
called me from Mercy Hospital located in Des Moines, Iowa. He and his older
brother, Morgan Day, aged 57, were travelling to visit another brother for
lunch. (Jon was visiting his family in Iowa.) They hit a patch of ice, went
off the road, hit an embankment and rolled several times. Jon was trapped
in the car and suffered compound fractures of his lower leg. He had surgery
on Friday and is recuperating in Hospital. His brother Morgan was thrown
from the vehicle and killed.

Jon will be released from Mercy Hospital on Tuesday. If you would like to
call him the room number is 515-247-3565. The Funeral for his brother
Morgan will be on Wednesday in Iowa.

Jon has to remain in Iowa for a few weeks for rehabilitation and follow-up
visits. I asked him if he needs any help here in New Jersey and he said
that he has most things covered. He may need a ride home from the airport
in a few weeks when he returns so maybe we can get some transport for him.

Please keep Jon and his Family in your prayers. He comes from a Masonic
family and he said that the Eastern Star was hosting the luncheon after the
funeral service.

Very sad news!
